SOMEONE SPRAY PAINTED "F!@@ INDIANS FISH KILLERS" ON THE BRIDGE OVER LOOKING THE RIVER AND IT OF COURSE MADE THE FRONT PAGE OF THE OLYMPIANS SOUTH SOUND SECTION IN THE NEWSPAPER. WE CAN SWEAR IN A BLACK PRESIDENT, AND STILL HAVE THIS TYPE OF CRAP ON OUR LAND IN THE SAME DAY. ANYWAYS IT HAD ME PRETTY HOT SO I GUESS IM JUST VENTING OVER IT.

Racism bugs the hell out of me too Trubblemaka. It's destructive because it tears down communities rather than adding to them. It's insidious because some people absorb all the negative stereotyping without realising it or understanding it for what it is; it's destructive because if they aren't grounded, those same people repeat what they see and hear.

I'm thinking mostly of kids here, I suppose.

I teach at a high school that has a high refugee/migrant intake. There are teenagers from all the trouble-hotspots: Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia etc. And racial slurs are almost the first thing they learn. it has taken me just over two years to stop racist comments in my class and that's only because the kids like me rather than agree that racism is a destroyer.

Don't get me wrong it's not JUST the "Aussie white kids" against the migrants, it's Iraqis and Afghanis against Africans and everyone against the Aboriginals. These kids hear racist comments at all levels of social interactions: school, home, malls. Like I said it took me a long time to keep it out of my classroom but what really gets my hackles up is hearing the racist BS from other teachers, some of them don't even care who hears.

It makes me sad that kids learn racism from their parents, their teachers and their friends. It's hard to break the cycle. Maybe the only thing we can do is speak out against it when we see or hear it?

If anyone has any ideas how to stop racism at school level, I'd love to hear it.

`You can only stop it one person at a time. I did however get to show a couple of kids what eventually happens to haters when they are told over and again to cut out the racist crap and comments. I am very anti-racist..very.
I had a roommate that everything out of his mouth was either the N word or something else. I told him if he thought that he was so much better he needed to carry his --- back to Germany where his ancestors came from. After another month of hearing it..I finally lost it and beat the crap out of him. Perhapos not the best way to deal with it ( I couldn't throw him out as it was not my house) but you kn0ow what..his daughter got to see the other side..how hurt and angry those comments make others with loved ones be they family or friend and what eventually can happen when you think that 'white makes right'. This guy made much out of being german decent..I don't think his fellow germans would so readily agree with his stances.
I usually tell every white person who says that we should ship this or that race back that perhapos they need to return to their own home country..if they even know which one (s) it would be if they do not like the mixing of the races.

Likewise, when a source is constantly displaying negative things about a particular race, then that will affect the overall opinions as well.

I also find that racism runs rampant amongst people of color.It's not going to go away and you can not force any one to like or tolerate another race just by passing a law..

`oh yea hollywood is quik to have the token native guy or asian not so much blacks anymore with black being so much into pop culture now but you still see it. i still see it in the streets, people makin jokes and stuff. like i was at work and this lil guy heard my drum music i was listenin to on my mp3 and started dancing around and well needless to say i had to put a stop to that but when i say something or make a stand for my people then im the bad guy. its ridiculous the way people are profiled by race and segregated by real estate. it's never gonna change totally i dont believe but its what you as a person are willing to accept and live with that defines how big a role racism plays in your life. its been my biggest problem dealing with it cuz i have trubble standing by and doin nuthin. but im still here still free and i jus eliminate people from my life that dont matter and keep on pushin.

das ist ein wirklich gutes Thema. Es ist schrecklich und sehr schlimm das jemand soetwas an die Brücke geschrieben hat. Ich denke das Problem liegt darin, dass in der Schule der Geschichtsunterricht zu kurz kommt. Ich habe zum Beispiel nie in der Schule etwas über die Ureinwohner (Indianer) Amerikas gelernt. Obwohl ich mich immer dafür interessierte. Es wurde nur Columbus erwähnt. Ich dachte Indianer würden bis heute noch in Tipis leben. Darum lese ich jetzt Bücher die diese Problematik betrifft. Fände es aber besser persönlich mit jemanden darüber sprechen zu können.

That is an actual good subject. It is terrible and very badly that someone soetwas at the bridge written has. I think lies the problem therein that in the school of the teaching of history to shortly comes. I never learned for example something in the school over the native inhabitants of (Indian) America. Although I was interested always for that. Only Columbus was mentioned. I thought would live Indian until today yet in Tipis. Therefore I read concerns now books that this problematic nature. If it found speak however better personally with someone about that to can.

IT IS TRUE THAT OUR HISTORY IS NOT TAUGHT IN MODERN HISTORY CLASSES TODAY AND THERE ARE SOME COURSE LIKE STATE HISTORY WHERE IT IS TOUCHED ON BUT IT IS BIASED AND IN MY OPINION NEVER REALLY TOUCHES ON ALL THAT OUR PEOPLE WENT THRU IN ASSIMILATION AND THE GENOCIDE.
